About Nika Fesler, MA, LPC

My education consists of a Master of Counseling degree from Adler University.  I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of different settings. I have worked with students in the city colleges of Chicago providing support with trauma, abuse, homelessness and suicidal ideation.  In my most recent role, I provided outreach counseling to children and families in western South Dakota.  I had a chance to work within the school system and fully understand some of the complex issues that arise with children who are struggling with attention deficit hyperactivity disorders (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorders (ODD), autism spectrum disorders and severe behavioral and emotional disturbance.

Some of the techniques that I have been trained in and find most helpful when working with individuals and families are: Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).   I believe that individuals and families are incredibly strong and already have what it takes to get through the hurdles and obstacles that life is throwing. My role in working with individuals and families is to uncover their strengths and skills for coping with the difficulties that life will present.

My goal is to offer you a space to come and explore what is going on in your world.  I will spend time with you to develop goals and plans for moving forward and through whatever is making life hard to manage.  I aim to make counseling a safe and positive environment to foster growth and sustainable coping skills with my clients.  Providing culturally sensitive and compassionate counseling is an important part of my practice as well as a commitment to my own continued education and growth as a clinician.
